You'd like to work with an independent college counselor
(or IEC - Independent Educational Consultant)
Awesome! We think it is great and encourage you to do so if it is available to your family. We also encourage you consider the below as you plan that route.
While we hope that all students will feel that their college counseling needs are met by our office, we understand that some students and families may choose to supplement our services with additional support from an independent educational consultant (IEC). If you are considering hiring an IEC, please make sure that you work with a member of one or more of the following organizations, which hold their members to high standards of ethics: IECA, HECA, AICEP, NACAC, or a NACAC regional affiliate (such as WACAC).
If you choose to hire an IEC, please understand that their services cannot replace those of the school counseling office for some parts of the admission process (e.g. submitting letters of recommendation, transcripts, etc.). Please also understand that their advice may not take into account the intricacies and policies of NTHS and the advice may not be possible or suggested.
While we are not able to specifically recommend an IEC - we may be able to provide you with a list of some in the area that you can explore as a family.
